East Bay Nature Bird Walk Schedule 2008
| Our bird walks are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month. Meet at the Store at 7:45 AM. We generally return about 10:00 AM depending on the location. A local naturalist guides the group to birding hot spots in our area. Coffee and donuts are served after the walk. No reservations needed and there is no cost. Please join us!! |
| January 5 | Lafayette Reservoir - woodland birds, waterfowl. Hiking Difficulty: 2 |
| February 9 | Grizzly Island Waterfowl Management Area -
waterfowl, pelicans, raptors. Hiking Difficulty: 2 |
| March 1 | Upper San Leandro Reservoir - waterfowl (possibly
Wood Duck!), wrens, finches, raptors. Hiking Difficulty: 2 |
| April 5 | Tilden Regional Park, Jewel Lake - woodland birds,
warbler migration begins. Hiking Difficulty: 2 |
| May 3 | Mitchell Canyon - woodland birds, warblers,
hummingbirds. Hiking Difficulty: 3 |
| June 7 | Briones Regional Park - woodland birds, breeding
or summer residents. Hiking Difficulty: 4 |
| July 5 | Hayward Regional Shoreline - shorebirds,
waterfowl, swallows. Hiking Difficulty: 2 |
| August 2 | Mt. View Sanitary District - shorebird migration,
waterfowl. Hiking difficulty: 1 |
| September 6 | Arrowhead Marsh - marsh birds (including rails),
waterfowl, shorebirds. Hiking Difficulty: 1 |
| October 4 | Albany Bulb, Eastshore Regional Park - waterfowl,
shorebirds. Hiking Difficulty: 1 |
| November 1 | Los Vaqueros Reservoir - waterfowl and/or raptors,
other open country birds. One of Contra Costa County's newest bodies of water. Lewis'
Woodpecker found here in 2005. Hiking Difficulty: 1 |
| December 6 | Lake Merritt, Oakland - water birds (e.g., grebes,
cormorants, herons, and waterfowl). Good opportunity to see Barrow's Goldeneyes. This is
one of the areas that is part of the Oakland Christmas Bird Count! Hiking Difficulty: 1 |
| Hiking Difficulty codes: | 1=Easy, very few hills to climb |
| 2=Moderately Easy, some small hills to climb | |
| 3=Challenging, flat land ranging to gentle to some steep slopes. | |
| 4=Difficult, some very steep hills to climb |
